Turning Sources On and Off
Pause a source without losing your configuration.
Table of Contents
Your agent has been giving a strange answer to questions about your pricing. You think it might be coming from an old document someone connected last month - but you are not certain. You do not want to delete the source in case you need it. You just need to take it out of play for a few hours while you investigate.
Toggling a source off does exactly that. One switch and your agent stops drawing from it instantly. The source stays connected and fully configured. When you have figured out what was wrong, turn it back on. Nothing is lost, nothing needs to be reconfigured.
In this article, you'll learn:
- How to toggle a source on or off
- How to toggle individual snippets on or off
- What happens to your agent when a source is turned off
Toggling a Source On or Off
- Go to the Sources tab.
- Find the source you want to toggle in your list.
- In the In Use column, click the toggle next to the source.
- Toggle on (blue): The source is active - your agent will use it to answer questions.
- Toggle off (grey): The source is paused - your agent will not use it until you turn it back on.
The change takes effect immediately. No save button needed.

Toggling Individual Snippets
You can also toggle individual snippets within a source on or off, independently of the source itself.
- Go to the Sources tab.
- Click the arrow (›) next to a source to expand it.
- Find the snippet you want to toggle.
- Click its toggle in the In Use column.
This is useful when a source contains mostly good content but one or two snippets are outdated or incorrect - you can turn those off without affecting the rest.

What Happens When a Source Is Turned Off
- Your agent will stop using that source's content immediately.
- The source remains in your list and all its settings are preserved.
- Auto-sync continues in the background even while a source is toggled off - so when you turn it back on, it will be up to date.
- Turning a source back on restores it instantly.
Best Practices
- Toggle sources off instead of deleting them when you're unsure - it's reversible, deletion isn't.
- Use snippet-level toggles to handle one-off issues without disrupting an entire source.
- If your agent suddenly starts giving wrong answers, toggle sources off one at a time to identify which one is causing the problem.
